Hey all,

First post here. :)

I have two parts that mate with M18x1 threads. The threads were damaged during installation. I figure I will need to get a M18x1 tap and a die.

Fact is, I can't track down a die in that pitch. Seems to me that 1.5 and 2mm are more popular.

How else can I repair the threads? Can I re-thread with M18x1.5 or M18x2?

Please advise. Thank you for your help.

Vince

What material is the part? Could you drill it out and replace with some kind of insert or helicoil?

I can't remember what the standard pitch of M18 screws is.

I don't think trying to re-tap with a different pitch thread will work. Some of the material required to form the new thread is already removed.

KENAT,

Thanks for the reply.

Actually I found the M18x1 die. Took me a while.

JL Industrial carries it. :)
