What part of TPH is a VOC?

Hello All,

I have soil contamination criteria for both toxicity and vapor emissions. My question is what information can I draw about VOC content from the results of a TPH test? If I get a hit in the gasoline range of EPA 8015B, is it possible that the results from EPA 8260 (assuming same soil sample etc) would come back clean?

No, propane, benzene, and other components of gasoline are all volatile organic compounds and will show up in the EPA 8260B test.

418.1 is really more of a screening test. It's quantifible and reproducable, but there are non voc chemicals/constituants that can give false positive values - Natural organic matter in the soil being one of those constituants.

So, yes, you can have a clean 8015 and a dirty 418.1.
