ASME B31.3 Table 323.2.2 Note 6 excludes impact testing when the maximum obtainable specimen has a width along the notch of less than 0.098 inch. So if you were trying to test a circumferential weld in an existing pipe joint, what pipe sizes/schedules are excluded from impact testing because the specimen width is too small?

Obviously, all the pipe size/schedule combinations with a thickness of 0.098" and smaller would be excluded, but there are still some pipe sizes with a thickness greater than 0.098" that you wouldn't be able to obtain the minimum sample size from.

I could draw different pipe sizes to scale and see if the minimum specimen fits in the pipe, but I don't have the resources for this. I've tried to figure out the trig for this, but haven't had much luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
