What shall be taken the value of H (Maximum Design Liquid Level) ?

Is H taken as the total height of the shell or height of liquid level?
The figure is shown below, the value of H is taken differently for the same tank calculation. (This is an example of seismic calculation for API650 tank)

Can anyone please help me out with this?

In 5.6.3, H is defined in API 650 as "the design liquid level" and further elaborated as "the height from the bottom of the course under consideration to the top of the shell including the top angle, if any; to the bottom of any overflow that limits the tank filling height; or to any other level specified by the Purchaser, restricted by an internal floating roof, or controlled to allow for seismic wave action;

In Annex E, H is defined as "Maximum design product level" and should be the same value as the H in 5.6.3.

I don't see where in your example why different values for H are used.

 

For the impulsive period calculation, it seems that , H=12.60 m while for Xi calculation , H= 12.12 m ..
Is this the question?

Provide more info. data sheet etc. if you are looking for a clear respond.

API design methods are independent of impulsive period of the tank.
 
I believe that first equation comes from this paper: Terms are rearranged to match API nomenclature.
Anyway, in that paper, he uses H as depth of water (ie, product), so that should presumably be used in both cases above.
In most cases, it wouldn't matter that much as the impulsive calculation is an approximation to begin with, so using one or the other doesn't necessarily move you closer to the "true" answer.

In this case H= 12.12 m .( with assuming that ,Overfill slot etc provided that limits the tank filling height )
