What type of mechanism does this amusement ride use?

I'm trying to replicate this system. Does anyone have an idea of what mechanism it could be using? The arm supporting the structure looks too thin to house a motor at that height.

The shape of the arm suggests it may have a large chain or belt drive in it.

It's most likely a hydraulic motor in the head of the big arm that lifts the cars.
