What university or training center teaches the design of above ground storage tanks?

I'm currently working in the oil and gas industry as a CAD engineer. Aiming to boost my career, I need to study the design of above-ground storage tanks. Please advise, what educational institution or university in Europe or the USA teaches such a subject?

Tanks are typically designed to standards and supplemented with various local regulations/requirements. So the best thing would be to study said standards (API 620, API 650, etc) depending upon your industry and what you guys use.

Ask an engineer if they have any training materials for you to go over as a starting point.

Do you have an engineering/science background/degree? Otherwise will likely have lots of auxiliary research when you come across terms like tensile strength and the various equations encountered.

Also, as part of your first lesson - the code/standard used when designing a tank depends on, among other things, the design pressure. If its less than 15 psig, called low pressure or atmospheric tanks, there are various standards. If it's above 15 psig, they become ASME pressure vessels (this forum)

There are no college courses on this subject ... However, there are organizations that give technical seminars:

Importantly, there are a few good books available on this important subject ... I own the Meyers book an have repeatedly used it for several years.

Some books are very specialized:

Specifically, What kind of tanks are you trying to design ???

Specialty chemical tanks (acids, caustics etc) are designed in accordance with experience-based recommendations from the chemical vendors .... many guidelines are available on this topic on the interwebs.

Design drawings copied from clients files can be very useful also ....

I have developed a small library on specialty tank designs
