In the Extrapolate Definition dialog of the GSD workbench:
Case 1: Tangent + Const dist opt

From the example given above, the Geometry difference may be noticeably too small to spot out. So could anyone magnify the difference visually by presenting another instance?
 
With the Tangent continuity option, the extrapolated section will be straight (flat).

With Curvature continutity, the extrapolated section may be flat or curved. (In your example above, it looks like you have a ruled surface. So if you extrapolate the top or bottom edges, the extrapolated section will be curved to match the radius of curvature at the edges. But the left or right edges will be extrapolated flat since the surface has 0 curvature in the ruled direction)

It's easier to understand if you extrapolate a curve.
 
Tangent and curvature have to d o with curve continuity. 3 types of continuity: g0 for point, g1 for tangent, g2 for curvature. Google class a surfacing and you'll get a good idea of what is involved.
