Im running 3,800 ft/min on a 38A grinding Wheel on a High Speed Steel Job
this is a bit slow isnt it?
Thanks 123 Cat

Changing RPM on a grinding wheel on a conventional grinder is not easy to do. They are generally one speed motors. CNC may be different. To compensate for lack of wheel speed adjustment, adjust your other cutting conditions such as depth of cut, use of coolant or air blow, stepover etc...

By the way, how did you come to this conclusion? Are you using a formula to calculate SFPM or have you observed less than optimal cutting conditions while a job is running or something else?

Also the specific cutting conditions for a job are usually the overriding factors anyway. While 3800 SFPM may not be ideal for a light depth of cut finish pass, it may be optimal for heavy DOC rough grinding. However, at this point we are splitting hairs because more information is needed to give an educated reply..

So, more info please....

i.e. cutting conditions, manner in which 3800 SFPM was determined to be too slow, machine in use, CNC or manual, and the color of your socks (j/k)!!!!

Thanks Jbel
Yes I cant change the speed
Bummer
I just feel that the wheel is acting too soft
The job is done
I just thought you guys could give a surface speed recomendation
Its wet grinding of High Speed Steel
Thanks for the Reply

I would have tried something around 7000 surface feet per minute to start with.
