When SolidWorks 'freezes'

It doesn't happen often - but every once and a while, SolidWorks will 'freeze' when you're doing a certain operation.

'freeze' = not completely frozen however I've never been able to wait more than 40 minutes for anything to happen.

In the past, I've found an alternate way to do the exact same thing. Now, I'm using SolidWorks to generate a bill of material for me. Is there an alternate solution out there using Excel-based bill of materials?

With a drawing open, click on a model view, Insert/tables, then select excel based or regular bill of materials. I use the SW version. The template can be modified to suit your needs. You can save that as an excel file.

Are you trying to generate the BOM from a drawing or from the assembly?

If either or both of these options are freezing on you... you could try Lenny's AssemblyBOM macro that will generate the BOM from the assembly and allow you to export that to excel.

The method that my current company uses (for Excel-based-BOM import) has worked countless times in the past, however I'm looking to generate a BOM on the drawing using my assemnbly - so I'm hoping one of these macros work for me.
