Hi,

Where can we find some information regarding high-toughness welding filler metal requirements and welding filler metal properties at low temperature? I would like to know which filler metal to use at -30°C for a dynamically loaded primary member.

The AWS has information on Charpy impact testing and the ASTM has info on the Izod test... that would be my first guess.

Logan82:
Ask the supplier (maybe a good fabricator or welding engineer) of your welding wire, welding rods, they should be able to supply this info., just as they do the other mechanical properties of their welding consumables. Talk with them about welding process, various base metals that you are using, etc., they should be able to supply some literature on the entire issue, to help you and your welders produce a good end product. AWS will have some info. on the issue too.
