What is steel grade?

High strength, low alloy, fine grain
Carbon .08 to .1 %
Manganese .50 to .75%
Phosphorus, max .04%
Sulfur, max .05%
Silicon, max .30%
Copper, max .03 to .04%
Columbium .01 to .04%

For the HSLA steels in the US you also need to specify the strength. Normal specifications are given in a similar form to:

090xlf

Where:
090 is the yeild in ksi
x means a 10ksi or better spread btw. yield and tensile
l means low carbon, <.13%wt
f means manufactured to fine grain practice.
