The code books have become so ridiculously expansive these days. I feel like I would have to take to a second on my mortgage just to buy all my reference. Can anyone tell me the best place to buy some of these codes at a reasonable price?
I need AISC-Steel Manual and Seismic Manual, ACI-318 and ACI-530, AWS D1.1, and NDS.

I've gotten AISC, ACI, and NDS products from the university bookstore. They're usually discounted for students.

The AWS code is outrageous.

You can find stuff on eBay. If having a book that's not the latest version is OK, it's not a bad place to check.

I take it you have asked your boss what he could get it for you assuming he is a member of the above societies? It is ridiculous to pay the membership yourself to get the reduced "member" price.

Look into joining a local chapter of ACI. You can then get preferential pricing on many documents and books. As cheap as anywhere since ACI id the publisher of several you mentioned. One additional benefit is the opportunity to get involved on the committees and get involved where you are exposed to future code/standard writing and the background behind the standards.

If you get involved in materials or testing, look into joining ASTM ($75.00/year). The annual cost is much less than buying/subscribing to one of the volumes, plus you can get unlimited downloads of all standards in the volume you choose at less than the purchase price. You can also join any ASTM committee, which keeps you abreast offuture changes and developments. If you are lucky and patient, you can een get to be a voting member, but that can take years (I waited 8 years to get to be a voting memeber on one).
