Hello every one.. we were given a plan that has a reinforced conrete beam that would look like below:
Breadth = 400
Depth = 500

______continuous end_____Midspan___discontinuous end
top_____:__5_______________3_________5
bottom__:__4_______________3_________4

and there is a rectangular outer and inner stirrup requirement..

the question is how can I implement the 4 and 3 bottom bar requirement?...

will I make the three bars continuous and cut 1 bar from the end continuous end?
if so where shall I end the bottom extra bar from the continuous end..

or will I cut them all like we would cut the extra bar at mid span at to terminate at beamLength/5 and cut the extra bottom bar at continuous end also at beamLength/5?

If you were "given a plan", why don't you ask whoever did the plan?

Are those the number of bars of a given size? If so, the reinforcement doesn't make any sense, unless you have some really strange loading requirements.

Dik?

Hello dik and hokie66 . . .thanks for your replay again...

those numbers are the number of bars and the diameter is 20 mm . . . .yup we were given a plan . . . but the inspector would suggested that such is a small matter that we would just solve it by ourselves.. they suggest that it would take a long process just to clarify the design if we would try to contact the designer..( i live in the philippines so it might give you an idea that the government is so slow in responding problems like this,, and this is a government project). . i hope you would understand somehow and help me some more.
