Can anyone direct me to a supplier of welding spuds. I am looking for a 1" NPT size in stainless. This is not for tank penetration. I have not used these before but I have seen them. They appear to look like a half coupling with a flange around the girth for welding to a flat surface. Any help would be appreciated.

Check out Bonney Forge and their subsidiary WFI at Click on the WFI link from the bonneyforge.com page and then the "products" link. What I consider a "spud" is what they call a "flanged pipet." From your description, though, it sounds like you are interested in more of a "vesselet" as shown on the second page of WFI's products. This is aka an "insert weldolet" on the Bonney Forge side.

Phoenix forge, makes tank flanges like what you describe, but don't know if they do stainless.

Also check on "floor flanges", which might work for your application.
