NX has a tool named "Where used" which unable users to find out where a Part belongs to(which assembly this component is part of).
How could I get in Catia information about a part's links to an assembly?

Thanks

this is more a plm than a cad function. so don't search in catia but in enovia (vpm, VPLM, ...) you will find your where used there.

I was wondering if Catia has a tool that would unable its users to get full informations about components and assemblies......

Hi,

You have to tell us which scenario are you using:

1. CATIA with a PLM system (as Eric said)
2. CATIA without PLM, files based on network/local hard disks.

What kind of info you want to get ? In first case all is there, a simple query will give you almost everything, depending on how PDM system was implemented and what you want to get...

For second case, I suppose you want to get info for files loaded in CATIA session?

Fernando

Hi Fernando,
Second case is my option that I'm expecting an answer from.
I am not required to use any PDM system on my daily Catia tasks yet.
Thanks,

I need to know (as an exemple) what assembly use the part that I have opened.......

You can find the path to part but I believe is not what you want...

OK, what you need is a workaround, there is nothing (as far as I know) like you want. Workaround would be to save all CATProducts like txt files (a script can be created to do it on a regular time based) then you can use Windows search to search inside all txt files what you want or...if you are aloud to use a File Manager like Total Commander or something similar you can search for a text string inside the folders where you have the catproducts....

Fernando
