I have a non loaded, non pressure part.

Marine offshore application: ambient 45 Deg C

The item is Some thing like a hood, it provides mechanical protection to components that are inside. It is not Air tight.

Which material is considered better amongst the 3

1) Al painted (Both sides painted inside and outside)
2) SS 304 painted(Both sides painted inside and outside)
3) Carbon Steel/mild Steel painted.

There seem to greater acceptance of CS/MS (in painted condition as compared to SS 304. Is this justified.

I understand 316 is suited as compared to 304 (due to higher pitting and crevice resistance).

But as compared to CS, should SS 304 not be superior (When we copare SS 304 painted with CS painted)?

Is painted Al infirior as compared to painted CS?

Consider the Thermal Spray Aluminium (or cold spray aluminium) with zinc inclusion, on the carbon steel substrate. It lasts donkey's ears and longer..Please note that you have to paint the stainless steel anyway and the aluminium cover would buckle in the wind or at the first crushing wave. However, if money is not object....
