According the ASME B31.4 Clause437.4.1:Hydrostatic Testing of Internal Pressure Piping:
Portion of piping system to be operated at a hoop stress of more than 20% of the specified minimum yield strength of the pipe shall be subjected at any point to a hydrostatic proof test equivalent to not less than 1.25 times the internal design pressure at that point for not less than 4 hours.
In my understantding, if the hoop stress during operation is less than 20% of the specifed minimum yield strength of the pipe, the hydrostatic proof test is not required to carried out for this portion of piping system. Is it correct? Thanks for your enlightenment.
