Harbour delays electric DHC-2 effort amid ‘ever-changing’ certification standards

Canadian regional airline Harbour Air has again delayed plans to begin passenger flights using an all-electric-powered De Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver, citing “ever-changing path to certification for an all-electric aircraft”.

Well atleast they only have to show the electric engine to be as reliable as a piston engine, now if only someone knew how relibile that was.

Shall we place bets on the relibility requirements moving if replacing a turboprop?
Edit: noting the the beaver comes in turboprop or radial

new technology = new certification issues (look at Li batteries, heck, look at Ni batteries). I'm surprised that they can't operate with an experimental permit, maybe hauling cargo just to get some hours on it. Really, I think NRC should run the plane (maybe sponsor Harbour to run the plane for them).

There have been committees picking away at these subjects since they came on the horizon 10+ years ago. The FAA has has LI battery issues on it's "TAIL" list for as long as the list has existed. The ASTM and maybe the SAE have gotten in on the act too. This maybe because everybody wants to write the definitive standard, but NOBODY wants to go first!
We're still working to "special conditions" on a case-by-case basis, for every project. And always after waiting for a ruling from HQ that takes months.
