Why is it that there shouldn't be hanging cables?

I know that connecting lamps with flexible cable is not a good practice according to NEC, but why is it?

Why the lamps of a warehouse located way above circulation paths, shouldn't be wired like that?

Maybe a local code.
Per NEC ART 410.62 cords can be used for luminaires as long as there is an attachment grounding plug. And the receptacle is located above the fixture with no strain on the cord and 6FT or shorter. A lampholder itself can be supported with cord per Art 410.62A.
Hope this helps,
Dave
