Hi,Group:

I am simulating the fragmentation process by embedding
cohesive elements into finite element boundaries. I am using the method "Embedding cohesive element in an existing 3-d mesh" as suggested in the Manual.

The procedure I am undergoing is that I first created the orphan mesh(Mesh/create mesh part) from existing 3-D elements, then Edit mesh by using method Mesh/Offset( create solid layers). When prompted to select the element faces from which the offset mesh will be generated, I selected some interior element faces using Select From Interior Entities. At last, I assigned cohesive property to the orphan mesh. The problem I am solving is a system in which a impactor hitting a target. Part of the targets is modelled using cohesive model.

However, the result looks strange: the orphan mesh is stationary while the interaction between impactor and finite element target looks well. I followed the procedure as described in the manual. Did I miss something? Anybody know how to use orphan mesh in this kind of problem. Thanks for your help in advance!

Regards,

Zhigang

What do I need to do next? Is it possible to set evry mesh boundary
as potential crack like this way? Any suggestion will be high
appreciated!

Regards,

Zhigang
