My question is, why would anyone use tuning like this for a hydrocarbon-water interface level controller?
I am currently troubleshooting the reason that several level controllers in the water loop in a liquid-liquid extraction unit don't function as originally designed. I started to look at the tuning to see if there was anything obvious like a T1 value that was way to low, and I came across this gem. Any insight into the reasoning behind such a complicated controller for such a seemingly simple operation would be appreciated. We have other interface level controllers that seem to work fine without the special non-linear control parameters. It is just a normal tank with hydrocarbon, water, and some solvent.
