Wilson Rockwell Tester

Hi,

Has anyone ever used a Wilson Rockwell hardness tester? The model i currently have is a JS. This tester is old and uses leverage and fulcrum to apply major and minor loads.

I used the sames one almost everyday for 43 yrs with no problems.
We had all the necessary standards had the machine serviced once a year.
Things to consider.
Periodically check the the Diamond Brale.
Change out the ball indenters in a periodic manner.
Check the travel time for the indenter, this is adjustable on most machines.
Keep the jackscrew clean.
Keep the surface of interest parallel to the platen surface.
Don't snatch the measurement operating level.
Watch the dial indicator for sickness.
Cover the instrument when not in use.

These are obsolete. Yes I still use them, and yes they still work. But they are difficult to keep working properly.
Modern servo driven machines are much more repeatable.
