Hi,

Referencing ASCE 7-16: Is Chapter 29 the prescribed method to evaluate wind loads on square steel tanks? Alternatively, does a square/rectangular tank behave like an enclosed building and hence is chapter 29 less conservative?

Thank you

Yes ..as long as the tank complies with the requirements of clause 29.1.2 Conditions. If square tank , you may use the coeff. at FIGURE 29.4-1 .

If the tank is not open roof tank, yes.. chapter 29 is not less conservative .
