i am interested in getting more information about windnoise testing. very often we are asked to do windnoise testing and run into a lot of problem as the requestors are not familar with what type of road surface /speed that they need.is there a generic format to use.

You need a smooth road (hot melt asphalt) preferably with no joints.

There are 3 basic problems (1) pure straight ahead windnoise
(2) cross car windnoise and (3) the tricky bits.

(1) drive in both directions on a calm day at a sufficiently high speed that windnoise dominates. 80-90 mph is a good start.

(2) wait for the right sort of wind and hope you can make sense of the results, or use a windtunnel with a turntable.

(3) drive at the problem condition and solve it. Grin
