Just something I saw on the web today

85% slower for ProE, but just take a look at UGS.

Yet again it looks like Microsoft has failed to impress the world.

Interesting... But it seems that some apps are not so affected, especially those that are not so tied to MFC (Microsoft Foundation Classes). Some, who use abstracted gui layers such as FOX-API or HOOPS, seem to run just fine in early testing!

Maybe there will be rekindling of interest in LINUX?

Re LINUX,

Lets be honest, all the big boys are already tied into Microsoft, whats the point

The only "big boy" I know of that's tied to Windows is Catia v5. At any rate it's PTC's response, having voiced their intention to pull the plug on Linux, that interests me.

PTC says they will have a build of WF3 that is Vista compatible by the end of next month.

Thanks for that Ben

That's a bit of welcome news. I was a bit worried about changes that are proposed for the company that I am with at the moment. I'll chat to the IT guys and tell them this bit of info.

Actually, just to enquire, was that on PTC's site or was that heard on the wires

Cheers

I cannot get teh FlexLM to start on vista. i am running an older version of Wildfire because I cannot afford the new. Can anyone help me? The error says that I do not have permissions to start the service.

Any help would be appreciated. I am wthout ProE and I need it desperately.

Thanks

It was in the PTC/User Exploder e-mails last week from Mike Campbell of PTC.

What version of FlexLM are you running?
You will most likely need a newer version for Vista.

makidproe,

I've had many random issues getting things to work in Vista which generally all amount to it's new way of handling permissions. Go into your program files folder on whatever drive you installed it (probably C:\Program Files\)
then go into the "flexnet" folder and then the "bin" folder.

Generally, if you're having trouble running or installing something. Right click on whatever it is, and choose "run as administrator." Do the same for the file: ptcstartserver.bat
That bat file will launch the FLEXLM license server, and it needs administrator permissions to run. Hopefully that solves your problem.
