Howdy all,

We're looking into getting a replacement for one of our existing wire EDM's and I need to do a little research on the competitors.

We're looking at getting a Sodick AG400L, so I need comparable machines.

We very rarely do 4th axis cuts, we mostly use the wire EDM to cut shapes otherwise unobtainable in Titanium and 316/17-4 SS. Surface finish is extremely important. While I know it's difficult to get a decent finish off wire on softer metals and the titanium, we're still trying to get the best possible off the machine. I am assuming that any manufacturer out there can obtain decent accuracies (+/-.0002" or better). Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks for your input.

Scott

If you are looking for accuracy Agie Charmilles are the best I am aware of. However as with most things there is a trade off, they are not cheap or that quick compared to other manufacturers.

*Edit to my post... the majority of parts are Tungsten, though we do cut lots of Titanum too.
