Let me start off with saying that I am extremely new to ABAQUS and I am tyring ot help out a co-worker by doing some research for him. He wants to know if there is any way to couple a wire to a solid model in order to cut down on element numbers and run time. Basically, he wants to create a wire and assign beam element properties (stiffness, E, I, etc) so that it will deform properly. He then wants to couple that with a solid model of the piece of pipe that he is interested in analyzing so that the solid model will deform appropriately (as if the entire pipe were modeled).

Hopefully that was all understandable and clear. Any help anybody can give would be much appreciated. If you need more info I will try and get as much info as I can.

Thanks,
Kat

Just create two separate parts and assemble them together, then couple them in the interaction module.

Yes, wire beam nodes as obvously the control points, regions of the solid model as the constrained slave. Just make sure its a 3d wire, even if it happens to be planar.
