Experienced NX I-Deas user new to UGNX6 would like to know if anyone has been able to create single line wireframe fonts in NX. The text command always makes the text fat. I just want single line text to be able to scribe this on a steel plate.

If your end result is 'scribed' text created by some NC machining process, the CAM module has a scheme for converting simple text into a tool path directly. I'm not a CAM guy, but I've been told that that capability is there.

Now if you really need single line text as geometry, that can be done by creating your note, exporting it as a CGM file and then importing it back into NX and curves. Perhaps a bit crude, but something that has worked for many people over the years.

To an Engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

and when you go into FILE -> EXPORT -> CGM to do this make sure the "output text" is set to "polylines" and not "text" - this is under "settings"

Thanks for the information.
It is just that in I-Deas the wireframe text command is so simple. Works just like the text command in NX just that you can have simple line text as well as fat double line text.

I will take a look at the CGM option.

I'm going to have the same problem. I come from I-deas, too. I'm hoping that I can figure out a way to define a font as single-line (stick figures, if you like), and register that font into NX so I can use it directly. Has anyone tried something like this? Is it feasable?

In NX there are manufacturing operations for both planar and contoured text where you can justpick a note and engrave it. No need to create curves just pick the note. These operations are available in NX6.

If you do want "Curves" that are stick figures then use Modern Font. See the atached file.

Hello John,

That's exactly what I was looking for, even GTAC did not know how or which font to use. I thought I went thru each of the fonts but I guess I missed this one.

Thanks

Jurgen

Another thanks to John Joyce. I missed that font somehow, too. You sure saved me a bunch of headaches.
