r14, softdesk 8. well i need some help, one of my drawings lost the ability to print text. hp design jet 750c. tried copy paste to new drawing file, made sure all layers on. what else could the problem be. we have had this issue in the office several times before. but can never figure out what the real problem is. sometimes we've been able to print text only after starting new drawing, then copy info from old to new. anyways, that doesn't work this time. need some help or suggestions. thanks...

Some possibilities:
1. Layer has printing turned off.
2. Your print setup has this color as a light
color so that it doesn't show up when printed.

thanks for the reply, i don't think it has to do with line color or layer printing. although i could be wrong. the only way i could get it to print is to uncheck the print fill box in the print/plot configuration box. then ofcorse it does not make the other drawings for our office standard. thanks again. any other suggestions?

Although it's costly, if you're working with a large drawing you might try adding some more memory to your printer. A well defined problem is half solved.

We're havng a similar problem in that we cannot "see" text in a drawing. We know the text is there because when we select that area, the text box appears (without text) and when we print the text will print out but we cannot see it on the screen. We thought it was the PC, in fact we upgraded the memory and the video card to see if that would fix the problem but it's happening on other new PCs now. Is this the same problem? If not, does anyone have suggestions for this problem?

Be sure you have the font installed. Sometimes if you don't have the font installed, ACAD will substitute another font for it, and the text will show up on the screen but won't print. >You have to have the font installed on the computer you are printing from.< We run into this sometimes with drawings we get from other companies.

An addendum to my last post. (If it is a font problem.) Fonts that are .SHX files just have to be in one of the file search paths in your preferences, eg. in the same directory as the drawing. The fonts that have to be installed on every computer are the .ttf font files.

Another possibility is that the the Nimda virus has affected your computers. It often embeds itself into a system file called riched20.dll. This file has to do with text processing. I recently had a problem with Autocad's internal text editor that was doing strange things, and it seemed to be due to the virus. Try an up-to-date virus check and fix.
