Do beam sizes for dimensional lumber follow standard dimensional lumber?

i.e a 10x10 would be 9.25x9.25?

Anyone have a good chart for sizing?

based on the American Wood Council National Design Specification, a 10X10 timber would be 9 1/2" sqaure.

search "table 1b section properties of standard dressed sawn lumber"

I think it is 3-1/2 and 5-1/2 before it changes to quarters (7-1/4, 9-1/4 etc).

Posts may not be the same as 2x lumber.
