Wood Equivalent Properties to Steel Angle

Does anyone has a better approach on calculating a beam that is reinforced with steel angles and thru bolts? I really can't find any reliable information. I have a (3) 2x8 beam that needs to be retrofitted for additional loads. The idea is to use steel angles at each side with thru bolts to take the extra loads. I found that this done very conservatively but I would like to have a better handle on the calculations involved. I do know that this calculation involves a flexible versus a rigid material but what code check we need to use?
