I am designing a 2 story wood dwelling inside of a steel building which was not designed to carry any gravity or lateral load from my light frame wood substructure. Unless I can figure out how to show that there are no loads or interactions that affect the steel building, the AHJ has said that I have to analyze story drift and there may not be any tight or incidental contact between my wood and the steel. I could put my outer walls inside of the steel columns, wasting an annular space of almost 2'. But I am still puzzled by how to negate interaction of out-of-plane forces from the contact at the "tunnels" to each door and window. Some kind of flexible connection? Anyone else deal with this? Guidance would be appreciated.
