Wood nailer on steel beam 1

G.C. wants to install a 3x nailer on the top of w10x steel beam at the field, the provisions were not to drill in the moment frame top flange or web, G.C. suggests to install a shop weld steel plate 1/4" x 3 1/2" x 8" @16" o.c. at the side of top flange and use lag screws for nailer attachment as a replacement for welded studs at top flange.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure if it is approved by city of los Angeles but anyway thanks for your reply

You can get threaded studs by Nelson that can be welded to the top of the beam if PAF's not OK...

dik, The steel plate is a replacement for the threaded studs as I mentioned above, the contractor claims that studs got bent during delivery and unloading, also the alignment of the of welded studs and nailer holes at the field is very difficult and time consuming for over 120 beams.

Sounds like a contractor problem.
Lining up holes for the nailer in the field is not difficult. The holes should be field drilled.

Suggestions:

1. Contractor replaces the bent threaded studs. Handling of the material is a contractor's responsibility. Definitely try to assist the contractor with a solution.
2. Powder actuated fasteners - can be okay if the loads are not big requiring a lot of fasteners. I believe that there is a legacy report for these. I do not know if the city of LA is included.
3. Weld leg of angle to underside of top flange of beam. Powder actuated fasteners into the side of the nailer. Again, loads need to be considered for feasability. Consider staggering the angles on each side of beam.
