I am desiging a chalet to be built in Pigeon Forge, TN with an "A" frame roof truss built out of heavy members. Building width is 26'. Roof deck is 2x T&G on top of the top chord. What is the maximum truss spacing and minimum member size?

You did not specify the wood species, so i assumed SYP.
The T&G pine commercial Sy=1400 psi
Typical spacing typically is 32" or 36", with deflection and creep the design drivers.
Design the Rafters – 20 psf live load, 10 psf dead load, 240 deflection, CD = 1.15 no drywall
Cheers

I want to span 17 feet accross a garage to support a loft. The loft will have a conventional floor system supported by a tie in to an existing wall and a beam. For the beam I am thinking that two two by twelves with a plywood flitch plate secured between them would be sufficient. Is that true? Alternatively, I was thinking I might get either one or two(if needed) Plywood Trusses ( Ones with a two by four slotted into plywood web on both the top and bottom). Minimizing the overall height of the beam is desirable. Do you have any suggestions about this problem and what to use to minimize the height of the beam. Thanks, Grandbuddy

Grandbuddy,
Usually it is helpfull to post new questions on there own.

What area loads the beam?
Will the roof load up or pass any load to the beam?
Is the an adequate foundation to support the beam loading?

You did not specify the wood species, so i assume SYP.
For SYP beams 17' long usually 2-2x12s deflection is too much.
Use 30 psf live load, 10 psf dead load, 360/L deflection for Sleeping Rooms and Attic Floors
