I am looking for information about the design of bridges made from wood; historical (covered bridges) and also modern bridges and eventually another large wooden beams supportet structures. I'd appreciate any web links, book titles. I need the info for my friend, retired engineer, who tried hard to promote similar projects in one small country in the Europe.
Thanks for help!

I did some research into one of the first recorded examples of prestress bridge design. The bridge was built in Czeckoslovakia. Steel was just introduced and allowed use of it in tension rods compared to the iron use in compression. The bridge was mainly wood.

I did the study under the direction an instructor David Hatcher at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo California. He collected examples of structural history through his lifetime and travels and put them together into a course History of Structural engineering.

I know he would be pleased to accept your inquiry.
