I need to design hollow tubes which have different hole patterns machined along their circumferences. I need to design the hole patterns as though the tubes are 'unwound' into flat objects.

Is it possible for me to make the tubes as rectangular objects and then 'wrap' them around a circle / cylinder.

Apologies if this is a basic / stupid question.

Thanks if you can help

There are not stupid questions.

Would you please clear your question?

Talking as machinist: do you want to drill holes perpendicular to the longitudinal axis?
So you can make a manifold or a flute ?
If you want , please send me a drawing to

Sounds like you're drawing a box and then a cylinder. Then placing the cylinder thru the box and applying the subtract command.
