Hi,

concerning the calculation to verify the local stresses due to external loadings of a nozzle welded on a pressure vessel (ASME Section VIII div. 1) according to WRC 107 (October 2002 update), do we need to take design pressure/temperature conditions or the operating conditions are enough?

If operating conditions are enough, can you tell me what is your reference (document, standard, etc.)to support your answer?

Thanks in advance,

Hcjulien

Take a read through ASME Section VIII, Division 2 (2007 Edition) Part 5.

The answer is - it depends on what stress classification you are talking about. For primary stresses, then you would need to use design P/T. For primary-plus-secondary stresses, you can use operating loads. Make sense?

TGS4,

where in part 5 of ASME Section VIII div. 2 (2007 edition) I can find the explanation of the use of operating loads against primary-plus-secondary stresses?

Ideally, you should read all of Part 5. However, definitely zero-in on 5.2, all sub-paragraphs.
