X-Ref problems

I have not been using x-refs until rather recently. I have a set of plans using them (about 7 separate dwgs. in all). I want to save these plans off, before making changes (county comments). Since the dwgs I am saving refer to a specific x-ref path, that path needs to be re-routed as to reference my base drawing PRIOR to any changes I am about to make. PROBLEM: when I reload the ref's under the new path, all of my layering is gone. Everything is thawed now. Do I have to go thru and re-freeze everything? I would think there's got to be a way to solve this.

Any help from you x-ref guru's is appreciated.

Which version of AutoCAD?

My thought is to use the PACK (or Pack-and-Go) command to send everything to one location to prevent repathing. Not sure if it will work for you, but worth a try.

I am not familiar with Pack command, though I have heard of the "pack and go" thing. I am using 2002. I'll give it a whirl and see what happens.

Thanks.
