x-ref search within drawings on local network

Is it possible to search for x-refs attached to drawings on a local network? Trying to find drawings that have had the x-ref exploded or bound (bind) to the drawing so that the x-ref can be replaced.

You should be able to go into your xref manager and see what the path to the xref file is/was. I say "was" when the xref has not been bound and the host file or the xref file was moved from the original source folder, the path will still be registered. If however, the xref has been bound you will not find the path or the xref file name. Perhaps there is a network directory which has drawing files sorted per project number.

I recommend that a system be used by everyone that has multiple projects and/or several users so that when it comes time to retrieve data/files a person not associated with the original project can easily find such information. At my previous firm we would have folders set up on the network based on year such as 2000Proj and then each project started for that year would have its own folder such as 02001 for the year 2002, project number 001. Anything created for that project that is necessary to plot drawing files, and including data such as survey results or structural analyses would be included in the specific folder. Secretarial data such as correspondence and transmittal letters would be on a separate drive for our secretarial staff and they would have a similar setup.

Check out AdRefMan.exe that came with AutoCAD. It should be on your drive in the Program Files\AutoCad folder.
