X80 equivalent Steel

Hi,
I need an I Beam for my fixture design of a material having 80-100 KSi Yield and Tensile. Something similar to X80.

The Size of the Beam is W44.
Can anyone suggest a suitable material Beam available in the Market?

Can we build one by welding the X80 Plates? Will the Section modulus be the same as the original I Beam?

A suitable standard would be ASTM A1011. A suitable material would be SS Grade 80 or UHSS Grade 90. A suitable product would be Weldox 700 from SSAB. You can build the beam by welding plates. The section modulus should be similar.

If you go with the Weldox 700 structural steel make sure that you visit their web site and download their Joining technical brochure. It is a good technical reference document for welding. As with any HSLA steel you need to understand specific welding requirements to avoid altering bulk mechanical properties.

Also, I would ensure some type of surface and volumetric nondestructive testing be performed of the fabrication welds especially if you are going to use partial or full penetration welds for construction of this I-beam.

What is the maximum Ksi for a W44 ready made I-Beam that i can expect in the USA Market?

You can expect properties to meet ASTM A 992, which means 50 ksi yield and 65 ksi ultimate.
