I've just started using ACAD 2006 and when i attach an xref the path (as well as the drawing object I'm attaching) shows on the drawing in a string of text. I've never had this before when inserting xrefs and can't see a way to get rid of the text string.

Would be grateful for any help or suggestions.

Thanks

Type in XREF at the command line. The XREF should be listed. It probably lost the link to the xref so you will have to "reconnect" to the XREF.

when the path is shown, is the drawing also showing or are you just getting a blank frame whithin which the path is shown? If that is the case then the Xref'ed drawing is not in that path.

What happens is...

I insert the xref (by brousing to find the drg I want to insert) and then I click to insert it into the current drg. The xref'd drg appears and also the text string of the path also appears.

I have not used 2006 yet, however it seems strange that the path shows on the screen when the X'ref drawing is showing in your host drawing. Do a refedit of the X'ref drwg and see if there is a nested X'ref drawing that may not show up therefore explaining the inclusion of the path in the host drawing.

I tried to duplicate this in my installation of 2006 and could not. I could not find any settings that might do it. Darn!! I've seen the xref appear or the path/filename appear, but never both. The nested xref is an idea but it would mean that the xref referenced itself. Try re-defining the xref. Question - does it happen for every xref you insert?

You may need to DETACH the XREF that shows up in text. The drawing keeps a "record" of it until you detach it per se. Type in XREF and look at the list of XREF's.
