XTools Arc Text Busted

For some time, back to when I was using ACAD2005, I have experienced unsatisfactory results using Express Tools Arc Aligned Text. Today it gave me my arced text, all right, but the letters either "Fit" my arc (very stretched), or overlapped terribly, despite much fiddling with text width and setting "Centered" text (NOT Fit text)

Any ideas on curing this? PS: I have tried freeware CTEXT.lsp, ARCTEX.lsp, and ARCTEXT.lsp, as well. They are either duplicates of ACAD's Arc Aligned Text, or are un-user-friendly.
