Dear all,

We are having Yazaki WFC SC 10 absorption chiller. We have been using it for solar cooling performance evaluation in UAE for last a couple of months. We have been operating the chiller normally since March. However, recently, we have noticed an issue with a chiller chilled water line temperature difference. The chiller is being fed with continuous 82 degree C hot water and it is returning with 78 degree c, cooling line is 27 degree C supply and 31 degree C return. We have maintained constant flow and temperature conditions according to design value in hot and cooling and chilled water line. We have noticed that the chilled line difference is cyclic in nature, however it was not the case before. sometimes it shows a difference like 18 inlet 15 outlet for like 1 minute and the difference starts decreasing and it goes like 18 degree supply and 17.5 degree return. Repeating the same cycle. The overall performance has drastically gone done because of this issue.

Anybody suggest what could be the reason and how to solve the issue.

Best Regards,

Martin

How are you rejecting heat to atmosphere" Have you checked the performance of that? Have you checked the performance of pumps?

This is not a simple problem with a simple answer. I would call the Yazaki rep first.

You should have bought an American made chiller instead of Japanese junk.

Heat is being rejected by wet cooling tower and it is working fine with the 32-27 degree centrigrade range. Water flow rate in all circuits are as per the design range.Pumps are also working fine. Today we operated the chiller with the limited load and it chilled down the storage water tank temperature till 7 degree C as well.So we come to conclusion that there is no issue of leakage or vacuum as well. Does anybody has experience that what happens if the amount of refrigerant is less.

Could there be one or more control valves in the chilled water loop that are not stable in certain load ranges?

That sort of variation with a cycle on the order of one minute sounds like a controller oscillating.

Best to you,

Goober Dave

First up you can not troubleshoot an absorption machine on a web forum. You need to take temperatures/concentrations readings at various sampling points and compare it to what it should be on a normal machine. It is to be done by a trained service engineer from the company as already advised by Willard. One of the qualities of a good engineer is the ability to know where to seek help when required

Thanks a lot for all of your suggestion.. I would contact the company supplying the machine and get back to you to share the solution....
