Zero-to-Transient Analysis/EMTP Aware in 6 weeks - how? 2

I've got the chance to attend an EMTP-RV training session, but the catches are that the training is less than six weeks away and, oh yes, I also know NOTHING about the subject. No one will be asking me to run cases when this is all over, but I would like to have a decent beginner's understanding so I can go into the training class swinging.

I can Google material as well as the next guy, but I'm willing to be it would be kind of hard to pick a good starting-off point out of fifty thousand search results. I'll do this anyway, but I was hoping to get some recommendations for ground level reading material from anyone who might be familiar with this application and field of study, especially as applied at the utility level. Thanks in advance.

I like your attitude! I cannot give you a path to follow, it all depends on yourself. But I think that it might be interesting to have a look at some typical instruments, their screen shots and what they are used for. Like you get in this link:

You do not tell, where your "zero" is. If you have not used an EMTP-type program before, then I suggest the obvious: Try the program! If you do not have some version of EMTP available, you can order a demo of EMTP-RV at

You can also download the demo- or student- version of a similar program called "microtran" at

Alternatively, you can try the similar, but free and unlimited ATP program. See
