Lifecycle is so well for GeoThermal (WaterSource) Heat Pumps in schools that are net zero with little solar, they are found lasting in schools of over 20 years to date.

Customer of reverse-flowing the fluids on just a single cycle chiller/heater (not reverse heate pump) using 3 way valves IS in his 28th year.

Other 7.1/2 ton units from 1977 are still on line in every 5kSqFt. no problems:

IF the Source/Heat-Sink and associated boiler/tower IS maintained: More savings!

Even more and more saving is with HYBRID ground-loop and dry-cooler implementing common temperature differential controls (done since the early 90's). Just avoid more than 30% GTHP to ground loops on the heating loads loop designing or 60% commercial cooling load in-ground-designing: LONG ROI's much over that...

If it is like a large home in portions of the loading Heat > Cooling, then look at a total cooling design by GTHP and perhaps to 90% of the heat loading. (and we have 18 units in 23k Residence...)

BUT
how much potable or non-potable Hot Water: HW? (company offices needing Drinking-Hot-Water DHW; swimming pool?)
is the FIRST QUESTION in getting highest LEED recognition, as schools have found , installing the systems of FORCED AIR HW-Heat-Recovery-HVAC GTHP's (which on boiler-tower, just have smaller water-source coils)...

32f rated units (old ARI-330) are with larger heat exchangers/ a little more cost, than say 70f or 50f units .

75 ton RTU Water-Source IN INSULATED cabinets and smaller are seen at with patented Heat Recovery of 1981. Water-Water HP's can do this with more equipment from any manufacturer of GHP's. (Earth-Coupled capability, but you can use even without ground loops, say moving internal Cooling and DeHumidification loads to a HW tank as for 100% Heat Recovery, then , or perimeter Heating with air or HW from the hot-side (condensing mode) of a compressor-Heat-Pump, AIR or Water - to - water... ONE COMPRESSOR designed in to two loads and simple water valves, if needed, and PUMPS BUILT IN inside each heat pump, save mechanical room switches and boxes and variable drive pump racks of MUCH higher maintenance costs, than the little three-speed select (NOT VFD) circulators that can be in 3/4 ton to 5 ton units, all the same pumps found in flow centers for the 100's of thousands of pumps, in GTHP's just in the us .
