Zigbee Stack question

Hi.

I have a question about Zigbee protocol stacks. I recently downloaded the Microchip Zigbee stack and their documentation says they only support Chipcon CC2420 and UBEC UZ2400 2.4GHz RF transceivers. I, however, plan on using the Freescale MC13193 transceiver with the SI Labs C8051F061 MCU. Does this mean that I can’t use this stack? Or do I have to modify some things before I do so? I only ask because the $1000 price of the Freescale stack would not fit into this project’s budget. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I would guess that stacks for micros all have to be written specifically for the micro for interest! Micros have too many constraints like ram and program space to have a Stack written for a PIC work on an 8051. Those suckers are a world apart.

Not only is the MAC / stack written to work directly on a particular micro, it is written to work on control registers of the RF transceiver chip. That's why there are companies out there selling stacks ($$$$) for certain combinations, such as Figure 8 Wireless (who Chipcon bought recently).

If you have good contacts with Silicon Labs, you might try to contact them. They are offering a ZigBee development kit, and I suspect (wild guess)it is based on the Chipcon. It uses the C8051F121 micro.
