Dear Team,

We have to PMI of Inconel forged material (ASTM B564) with spectro. After the PMI the burn damage due to PMI need to be removed by Grinding. So vendor has proposed grinding with Zirconia grinder in order to avoid the change in chemical composition of material Surface.

So please let us know what is the advantage of using Zirconia grinder
and why other grinders having impact on chemical composition.

When you dry grind you will embed some abrasive. Al2O3 and Zircon are both insulators and inert.
Garnet is SiO2 and is usually avoided because it is softer.
SiC on the other hand is an electrical conductor (or at least semi-conductor) and in some cases has been linked to galvanic corrosion issues in very corrosive environments.
