All,

I am looking time/temperature/property data for the magnesium alloy ZK60A as it is aged to a -T5 condition. Any help is appreciated.

ZK60A-T5 is usually obtained as an extruded tube or as a forging. Minimum properties for forgings (ASTM B 91 or SAE AMS 4362) are yield = 179 MPa, tensile = 290 MPa, and elongation = 7%. Minimum properties for extrusions (ASTM B 107 or SAE AMS 4352) depend on cross-section, with minimum yield = 230-260 MPa, tensile = 295-315 MPa, elongation = 4-6%. MIL-HDBK-5J has some additional property information, and is freely available online. Keep in mind that Mg rapidly strain hardens, so strengths considerably in excess of these values can be obtained. Also, the properties are usually anisotropic, meaning that they will vary depending on the direction of the workpiece. The T5 condition means that the article is artificially aged after elevated temperature working. The time and temperature is 149 C (300 F) for 24 hours for alloy ZK60A.

Thanks for the info. I am looking for specific time at temperature mechanical property information as the material ages at 300F for 24 hrs. If the material is not aged properly from the -F condition, it will not achieve the -T5 levels specification levels, specifically TYS and UTS. Thanks.
