Dear all,

My mother lenguage is not english and that is probably (hope so!) the reason why me (and other colleagues) can`t fully understand UW-14 regarding the situation of a nozzle intersecting a cincunferential joint.
Our real problem is: in a low pressure vertical vessel made from 12in pipe, unfortunately a 3/4" instrumentation coupling is exactly on a shell to head weldment.
The vessel is not X-rayed. So, acc. to UW14 should we or shouldn`t we x-ray the circunf. weldment in the neighbourhood of the coupling?
Thanks in advance

J

If the vessel's circunferential weld neds no x rays, the nozzel will be excempt as well, the question is; are you allowed to put a nozzel in the circ. weld?, I think you can.
I do not have the Code with me so I have to confirm later.

Yes, you need to radiograph either side of the opening per UW-14.
