I'm trying to upgrade an old license of CosmosWorks 6.0 to CW 2006 and it won't allow installation without first uninstalling CW 6.0. Control Panel Add/Remove Programs tells me the uninstall is successful but doesn't remove it from the list of installed programs. Anti-virus temporarily disabled and rebooting doesn't change anything. Still won't allow me to install 2006.

I'm pretty sure I could remove all the files manually and it still wouldn't work because of settings in the registry.

Has anybody run into this? Tech support hasn't returned my calls yet but I'd like to get it done in the next 24 hours.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Tim

Did you unistalled CW6.0 before CW2006 or did you installed CW2006 as an upgrade of CW6.0?

It's never a good idea to install an update. You should always uninstall the old version and do a clean install of the new version (this is a rule for Software in general, not specifically for CW).

Try to reinstall (exactly the same way as before) or repair the previous installation of CW6.0 (I don't remember if this version had a repair option). After that, try uninstall again.

If that does not work and you can't get proper help from CW or VAR, maybe the only solution is a manual deep registry cleanning (I've had a similar problem with SW - it messed an SP installation and it would not unistall because it was the wrong version neither let me install the new SP because it was not the apropriate SP - solved with deep registry cleanning).

The registry edition is a very risky task and can easely cause your computer to fail the boot. This should be done as a last desperate solution. Backup everything before doing it.

Good Luck

Sorry I didn't reply back here right away, but it turned out that the CW6.0 had been installed while logged into the local computer. Since I've only logged in via our company's Domain server for the last few years I had completely forgotten about that significant difference. As soon as I logged out of my company domain login and logged back into my PC directly I was able to uninstall CW6.

Thanks,

Tim
